Why Individualizing Your Training Is Essential for Progress ?
Every athlete is unique. Two athletes with the same VO₂max or the same time or power over a 20-minute effort can have completely different physiological profiles — and therefore not respond the same way to the same training!
One could progress better with a polarized approach, focused on very low and very high intensities, while the other could benefit more from a pyramidal approach, centered on intermediate intensities near threshold.
This difference comes from fundamental physiological factors like the distribution of your muscle fibers (slow vs fast) and the balance between your aerobic system (VO₂max) and your glycolytic system (VLamax).
This is where "generic" training plans reach their limits: they don't account for your physiology, your strengths and weaknesses, or how your body produces energy.
Result: you can train hard without progressing where you need it most... or even move away from your goals by working in counterproductive intensity zones!

WHAT IS THE TESTING PROCEDURE ?
The INSCYD test has the unique feature of being performable wherever you want: at home, outdoors or on a trainer. You only need your own equipment. Equipment details are in the next section.

The procedure consists of 3 maximal intensity efforts:

20 seconds (between 15 and 25 s)

3 minutes (between 2'45'' and 4 min)
-
6 minutes (between 5 and 8 min)
You can perform the test in your usual training environment, outdoors or indoors. The slightly variable durations allow you to choose adapted segments — for example Strava segments — to challenge yourself in familiar conditions.
These 3 intervals can be performed during the same session, with adequate recovery times, or over 2 sessions spread over 2 to 3 days.
📊 Data Analysis
Once the three intervals are completed, you simply send me the recorded training files. They are then analyzed by the INSCYD platform, which calculates your key physiological values with great precision.

The INSCYD test for runners is primarily based on pace (min/km), measured using your GPS watch, a speed/distance sensor or ideally on an athletics track for maximum precision.
